Full-Time Storage & BackUp Administrator – Lead

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Storage/Backup Administrator II will be responsible for supporting all Global storage and back-up environments, except the Mainframe.  Must be able to prioritize and manage issues of varying complexity and criticality.  Provide assistance with problem diagnosis and be able to resolve 90% of issues before escalating to the next tier level of support.  Correctly decides when to escalate to more senior personnel during priority 1 or 2 issues that fall outside of their experience level.  Will create and follow work plans and understand associated documentation.  Understands the need for security; knows to ask for help with respect to security related issues or requests.  Performs daily operational checks, reviews event management alerts and e-mails, and assists with automation.  Performs server maintenance during approved windows, some of which are after the normal business day and on weekends.  Supports On-Call operations to provide 24x7x365 support to maintain customer OLAs and SLAs.

  • Understands the need for security.  Has basic host security knowledge; understands the concept of a firewall.  Takes a defensive posture.
  • Can clearly articulate data center standards.  Basic electrical signalling (ethernet length, how many pairs, etc).
  • Familiarity with datacenter facilities infrastructure (Power, Air flow, cabling).
  • Can test transports and knowledge of components used.  Knowledge of specific network advance features. Detailed understanding of provision and able to debug provisioning problems.  Able to read and understand carrier billing.
  • Able to decode common signally protocols.
  • Tracks alerts as they arrive in the system and are able to take initial  and secondary actions for remediation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems or Computer Science.

Experience:

  • 6+ years of industry experience.

SAN – IBM V7000 , SVC, DCX Operational Tasks

 

  • Knowledge and Familiarity with SVC and IBM Storage virtualization
