Job Description – L2 NOC Engineer

The Network Operation Center (NOC) have three main roles:

  • To ensure maximum possible service availability and performance
  • To provision customer network services on core equipment
  • To provide support services for Engineering and other technical teams

These result in a highly diverse range of duties for the NOC – our engineers are required to ensure they are fulfilled in a timely, co-operative and professional manner.

NOC Engineers interact frequently with technical support, service provisioning and sales teams so it’s important that they are clear and concise in their communications. You will also work very closely with the Engineering team and as such need to develop a good all-round understanding of systems and networks. Diligence and attention to detail are also key skills along with an ability to multitask and prioritize work appropriately.

We don’t expect you to have all the required knowledge when you join us as many of these skills can be picked up through experience in the job, but those who do need to learn new skills must be prepared to spend time doing suitable research to ensure their grounding is thorough and properly understood. As your knowledge and confidence develop you will be required to be part of our call-out rota providing 24×7 support on our core network and services.

Importantly, NOC engineers must have a solid understanding of Intelvision’s products, services and processes; they must be eager and quick to learn, be clear communicators and must be able to use their initiative to tackle a broad range of problems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answering technical queries and assisting users.
  • Troubleshooting any reported problems.
  • Carrying out successful daily data center operations
  • Core switching upgrade & maintenance as directed by Level 3 NOC engineers
  • Routing upgrade & maintenance as directed by Level 3 NOC engineers
  • Linux/Windows base systems administration
  • Customer resolution / escalation calls & disaster declaration
  • Customer data restoration requests
  • Customer support & ticket resolution on-site and off-site
  • Network/System/Hardware Monitoring
  • Maintains network facilities for continuous performance.
  • Maintains a detailed record of the problems and methods used to solve it.
  • Prepare daily reports for work carried out during shift
  • Has to deal with power outages, black holes, network failures and make sure that main network is stable.
  • Finishes the work according to policies of the company.
  • Any other IT task management may ask

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the ideal candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.

  • Must be available to work non-standard business hours and varying shift assignments
  • Strong Customer Service and Technical Leadership skills required
  • Must be able to work and thrive in high pressure situations
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of Windows and Linux OS
  • Basic understanding of networking technologies and components such as switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Basic Knowledge of various scripting languages including PHP and Bash
  • Basic knowledge of MySQL
  • Strong interpersonal skills and have ability to interact with all levels of Intelvision’s team members in a professional manner
  • Education and/or Experience

Education and/or experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Two or more years’ experience supporting data center operations preferred
  • Strong negotiating, problem solving and documentation skills are essential to the success of this position
  • Excellent technical skills with proven ability to communicate and drive to results
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously with little or no management supervision. Must have demonstrated success in managing multiple issues simultaneously
  • Excellent analytical skills, and a strong ability to learn/assess new systems and technologies
  • Must have demonstrated success as both a good team player and team leader
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Driving License with at least 2 years of driving experience

Salary – Negotiable. Free food or Food Allowance, Accomodation, joining & return air tickets.

Duration of Contract – 2 years.
